It was my birthday on Tuesday; I'm not going to tell you how old I was, not because I am old now but so that when I am actually old you won't know. I often have sudden, unprompted desires for something totally unnecessary. Usually these are large, unobtainable things; lighthouses, 16th century galleons, flights on Concorde etc. But when my Mum asked me what I'd like for my birthday I happened to be craving a type writer. I know nothing about type writers, but I just wanted one, badly. After that day, however, I forgot completely about it. So on Tuesday I was surprised and delighted to unwrap this. I believe it is 1940's/1950's, although I'm not sure. It works, it types in black and red (awesome, right?) and it rings a little bell when it gets to the end of the line. Other than that I know nothing about it, except I already love it and just had to share it with you.
Now I'm going to try and work out how to use it properly!
Happy Birthday old crone ;) I wish you many lovely returns. I was thinking about typewriters the other day! I wonder if we had a shared lightning bolt! My mum used to have one. I think it was my nans actually. A big denim blue clunky thing. It typed in black/red and had little reels of ink tape that if you touched NEVER came off your fingers. I remember typing on it and having to hit the keys so hard, and if you missed your finger would slip in between the keys and hurt so much. I liked taking the cover off and looking at all the stamps or pressing all the buttons at the same time so the funny things would all lock up into a big jumbled mess of metal. I was a strange child. I don't recommend doing any of the above as i dread the damage I caused. I can't remember where the thing is these days. I want it now for genuine well behaved purposes :)
ReplyDeleteI would have loved one as a kid! I would most certainly have ruined it, in fact I'm pretty sure I'll ruin this one which is why I'm glad it was inexpensive. One day I'll get a posh one, but not until I can work them well! I'm loving it though. Just having it in my room is inspiring me. You should if you could find your mum's one, it'd be lovely to have one passed down like that!
